WOMEN CELL ACTIVITIES IN OUR COLLEGE

The college has a Women Cell which takes care of all the issues and problems related to girl students. Started in Aug 2010, the cell is lead by a Dean of Women Students, Dean of studies, 2 lady staff members and an advocate.

Dress Code:
  • Churidars /Salwar kameez must be worn on Mondays.
  • Dupatta neatly pinned on both sides is mandatory on all days.
  • Below-knee kurthi tops with decent full-length pants are allowed on other days of the week.
  • Leggings are allowed only for long tops without slits.
  • T-shirts, short tops, skirts, folded pants, 3/4th pants, torn trousers, and sleeveless dresses are not allowed.
  • Hair coloring is strictly not allowed; free hairstyles are not allowed.

THE VARIOUS ACTIVITIES OF WOMEN CELL IN OUR COLLEGE ARE:
  • To inform the girl students as well as their parents about the policy and the procedures against harassment, ragging etc.
  • To give enough precautions to the girl students regarding various problems they may face.
  • To approach the Grievance cell at any time for any help.
  • To keep a watchful eye on the girl students for their safety and security.
  • To check the discipline of the girl students in the college including dress code.
  • To conduct various activities during Women’s day.
  • To motivate the students in their overall formation.
  • To organize seminars on Women’s safety, Hygiene etc.
  • A forum for women students “SHE – See Her Empowered” was inaugurated on 13th August 2019. The objective of SHE is to empower women students and to encourage them discover themselves and to bloom where they are planted.

Events Conducted

Women’s Cell Logo Designing Competition

To commemorate the launch of SHE (See Her Empowered) – an exclusive space for the women students of our college, a logo designing competition was conducted on July 16th, 2019  and the top submissions were used as an inspiration for the final emblem of SHE.

Inauguration of SHE

On 13th August 2019, a forum called SHE – See Her Empowered was launched for the women students of our college. The aim of SHE is to empower women students and to encourage them to discover themselves. The Chief Guest for this august event was Ms Goushaly Kothai Nachiar, Practice Head App Development & Analytics, Amtex System and the Guest of Honour was Ms Padmini Janaki, Product Management Professional, Change Healthcare. The inaugural event also included a dance performance and mime by several women students.

Women Empowerment Conclave

On September 6th 2019, the Madras Management Association enlightened the women students on the importance of self-independence, opportunities for entrepreneurship, and also encouraged direct interaction of students with companies like AGS Health, CueMath and Thoughtworks. Apart from this, there were also a series of workshops, masterclasses, story-telling sessions and panel discussions supporting the above topics as part of the conclave.

Women & Wellness Webinar

A session to throw light on Women’s Well-being and Health was conducted on 13th November 2019 and the speaker for the same was Dr. Meera Ragavan, a Urogynaecologist. 

Women’s Day 2020

The Women’s Day 2020 celebration kicked off with a flash mob followed by a performance by the LICET band in the college reception area. A plethora of competitions like poetry writing and poster design contests were held and prizes were distributed to the winners and participants.

POSH - Prevention Of Sexual Harassment

A poster designing and doodling competition “POSH” was conducted on 31st October 2020 to raise awareness on the prevention of sexual harassment. The theme for the poster design contest was “Stand Together for Safety” and the theme for the doodling contest was “Voice for Oneself”.

I-CAN Series

During the times of pandemic, the SHE forum organized a series of webinars focusing on subjects like fitness & well-being, self-belief and mental health explicitly for the women students of the college from 22nd July to 24th July 2020 respectively. 

(i) Fitness, Health & Well-being

The first webinar on Fitness, Health and Well-being took place on July 22nd 2020. The speaker of the session was Dr. Meera Ragavan, Senior Consultant, Urogynaecologist, Robotic Surgeon. Doctor gave an insight on the importance of good health and how it’s synonymous to a life-time achievement. 

(ii) Surface Your Strength and Identify your Superpower

The second webinar, conducted on 23rd July 2021, threw light on topics like motivation, realization of one’s interests and pursuing dreams. The speaker of the session was Ms Poornima Janarthanan, Alumnus of LICET(Batch 2010-2014) and Business Analyst Specialist at Microsoft, Ireland.

(iii) The Power of ‘I Can’

The final session took place on 24th July 2021 and the talk was along the lines of the COVID pandemic, mental health and healthy living. The speaker of the session was Dr Aruna Saraswati P, Senior Psychiatric Counsellor and Positive Parenting Specialist. 

Breakthrough Women

On 6th March 2021, the SHE forum conducted a session, “Breakthrough Women” with Ms Bhavna Jain, a Leadership Coach and Breakthrough Consultant. Following a theme of “Choose to Challenge”, the topics covered across the session were self-awareness, confidence and resilience.

Meraki

On account of Women’s day, the SHE forum organized ‘Meraki’, a platform for students to exhibit their talents virtually. The activities ranged from dancing and doodling to poetry and singing. The best submissions were displayed in the virtual Women’s Day Celebration on March 6th 2021.

Women’s Day Celebration for Staff

The Women’s Day celebration for the teaching and non-teaching staff was conducted on 8th March 2021. The event included thought sharing, games, a special performance by the LICET band, followed by the distribution of personalized handcrafted mementos for each of the staff members.

Food Fest - 20th December 2021

Our most awaited Food Fest was conducted on December 20th at LICET Lobby, bringing in the mood of celebration. As we all know Christmas is a season of sharing, and the Food Fest was conducted for the right cause. All the funds raised through the Fest were decided to be donated to Charity. The Food Fest was not only an element of fun but also imparted Social responsibility to our students.

Visit to Orphanage - 20th January 2022

PREMA VASAM is a home for the Mentally & Physically Challenged and Less Fortunate Children. It is the only home of its kind that caters to the needs of a large number of special children along with the less fortunate school-going children.
The Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K along with the members of the “SHE” forum, had visited Prema Vasam-home to orphaned and physically disabled children and had an eventful time interacting with the children and had an insightful conversation with the coordinator and volunteers of the orphanage. The proceeds of the charity food fest were donated to the orphanage.

Webinar: Healthy Body Happy Mind - 21st January 2022

Good health helps a person to keep a positive attitude towards work and life in general. Keeping in mind the need of the hour, the SHE forum organized a webinar on Healthy Body – Happy mind on 21 st of January 2022. Dr. Nanda Gopal, health coach who was the speaker, highlighted the fact that health, be it mental or physical is the prerequisite for living a good and fruitful life. It is not wealth, food, or good clothes that make a person happy, but buoyant health together with a strong mind.

SHE-POSH Event-Webinar on Proactive discussion on Women’s Safety - 12th February 2022

Keeping in mind the significance of Women’s Safety, the See Her Empowered (SHE) forum in alignment with the guidelines of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell (POSH), Anna University organized an online proactive discussion on women’s safety on the 12th of February 2022.

Meraki 2022 – 17th February 2022

Student competitions such as poster making and trivia quiz were organized by the SHE forum on account of Meraki 2022. The topics given were International Women’s Day, Equality, Women the real heroes. The prizes for the winners were distributed on International Women’s Day.

Provisions Donation to Orphanage– 4th March 2022

Holy Apostles- Baby Home is a foster care home located in St. Thomas Mount, Chennai. It was founded for the very purpose of looking after destitute and abandoned children and providing them with a home and residential accommodation. On the occasion of Women’s Day, The Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K had announced charity provisions drive to the foster care home. There was an enthusiastic response from the faculty members and students. On the 4th of March 2022, the Dean of Women Students along with Ms. Chitra, Assistant to Physical director visited Holy Apostles, foster care home, and donated the provisions collected.

Women’s Day – 8th March 2022 | Theme- Breaking the Code

On the occasion of Women’s Day, 8th March 2022 a celebration was organized by the SHE forum in G01, LICET Auditorium. The theme of the celebration was “Breaking the Code”, the chief guest was Ms. Pearlena Bharathkumar, Manager, Human Resources Development, Hyundai Motors India Limited. The LICET choir enthralled everyone with their melodious songs. The girl students were highly motivated by the Chief guest’s inspiring talk. She also distributed the gifts of the Meraki-2022 competitions held to commensurate the Women’s Day celebrations

Awareness Programme - Self-Protection of Girl Students-30th March 2022

The safety of the girl child is a matter of concern across the world. While different organizations try to raise awareness among the masses about the need to ensure the safety of the girl child, the situation remains worrisome. There have been several incidents of sexual violence against minor girls in the country recently. To highlight the importance of self-protection of girl students, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K had organized an awareness program for the girl students of LICET. The resource person was Ms. M.R.Manjula, Inspector of Police, Prohibition, and Enforcement.

Student’s Visit to Orphanage- 1st April 2022

The Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi.K along with the Vice-Principal of LICET, Dr. Inba Rexy.A and student members of the SHE forum visited Prema Vasam- home to orphaned and physically disabled children on 1.04.2022. They had an eventful time interacting with the children and had an insightful conversation with the coordinator and volunteers of the orphanage.

Seminar on Adolescent Health and Well-Being - May 4th, 2022

Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood. It is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health. Adolescents experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth. This affects how they feel, think, make decisions, and interact with the world around them. To highlight the importance of adolescent health and well-being, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K had organized a seminar for the girl students of LICET. The resource person was Dr. Mala Raj, Obstetrician, and gynecologist, Firm Hospitals.

Seminar on Gender Sensitivity - May 18th, 2022

Gender sensitivity is the process of being fair to women and men. To ensure fairness, strategies and measures must often be available to compensate for women’s historical and social disadvantages that prevent women and men from otherwise operating on a level playing field. Equity leads to equality. Gender sensitivity requires equal enjoyment by women and men of socially-valued goods, opportunities, resources, and rewards. In order to raise awareness of gender sensitivity the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K had organized a seminar for both the boys’ and girls’ students of LICET on 18th May 2022. The resource person was Dr. Sangeetha Mahesh, Counselling Psychologist, and Relationship Consultant.

Webinar: Menstrual Hygiene Management- 2nd June, 2022

Menstruation and menstrual practices still face many social, cultural, and religious restrictions which are a big barrier in the path of the menstrual hygiene management. In many parts of the country especially in rural areas, girls are not prepared and aware of menstruation so they face many difficulties and challenges at home, schools, and workplaces and women have very less or no knowledge about reproductive tract infections caused due to ignorance of personal hygiene during menstruation time. In order to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K had organized a webinar for the girl students of LICET on 2 nd June 2022. The resource person was Dr. Deepa Thangamani, gynecologist, Apollo Hospitals.

Awareness seminar on safe and happy periods- 30th August, 2022

To create awareness among the students and to encourage the development of healthy personal habits among the girl students, an awareness seminar was organized by the SHE forum in association with sanitary napkin manufacturer Whisper on 30th August 2022.

A two-day life workshop on emotional maturity in gender relationships- 7th and 10th September, 2022

To create awareness among the students on emotional maturity in gender relationships, The Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K organized a two-day workshop on emotional maturity in gender relationships for the boys’ and girls’ students of the second and third years on the 7th and 10th of September 2022. The resource person was Mr. Gur Aryeh Emi, a Child Rights activist and social worker.

Awareness seminar on mental health- 29th October, 2022

In order to bring awareness to the importance of mental health and to assure the availability of help if needed, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K organized an awareness seminar on Mental health on 29th October 2022 for second-year students. The resource person was Ms. Yamini Rajagopal, counsellor and psychotherapist, at SIMS hospital.

Seminar on international day of elimination of violence against women- 25th November, 2022

As per the guidelines received from AICTE, an awareness seminar was organized by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K to highlight the importance of the elimination of violence against women on 25th November 2022. The speaker was advocate, Ms. B.S. Ajeetha. This seminar was conducted for students of both genders in the college auditorium.

Sensitization workshop on posh act, 2013- 2nd December, 2022

With the aim of creating awareness among the faculty, (both teaching & non-teaching), and maintenance staff, as per the AICTE guidelines, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K, organized a sensitization workshop on the POSH Act, 2013 on 2nd December 2022. The resource person was Ms. Viji Hari, CEO, of Cecure Us.

Food fest ’22 and charity drive- 7th December, 2022

In order to usher in the spirit of Christmas and to donate to the lesser privileged sections of our society, LICET’s annual food fest was organized by the SHE Forum on 7th December 2022. All the funds raised through the food fest were decided to be donated to charity. The food fest was organized with the aim of incorporating social responsibility into our students. The proceeds of the Food fest were donated to Manasu, a mental health charity home on 20th December 2022.

Women’s Day – 8th March 2023 | Theme- DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality

On the occasion of Women’s Day, 8th March 2023 a celebration was organized by the SHE forum in G01, LICET Auditorium. The theme of the celebration was “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, the chief guest was Ms. Devakirani M, Associate Director, Global Product Management, Kyndryl. The LICET choir enthralled everyone with their melodious songs. The girl students were inspired by the chief guest’s motivating talk. She also distributed the gifts of the Meraki-2023 competitions held to commensurate the Women’s Day celebrations.

Cancer Awareness Seminar - 16th August 2023

In order to create cancer awareness amongst the women students of LICET, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K, organized an awareness seminar on 16th August 2023. The resource person was Dr. Amy Jose, a cancer specialist who belongs to Adyar Cancer Institute. The doctor highlighted the various types of cancers and the preventive lifestyle measures which could be adopted to prevent cancer.

Teachers Day – 5th September 2023

On the account of teachers’ day, celebration was organised by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K on 5th September 2023. The teachers were welcomed by the students, who entertained them with speeches and songs. Teacher’s Day was organised with the aim of recognizing the challenges, hardships, and the special role played by the teachers’ in shaping the future of students and developing a civilized society

Seminar on Positive Outlook on Life - 4 th October 2023

Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this age-old question about positive thinking may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself, and whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic — and it may even affect your health. In order to create awareness amongst the first year students of LICET about the power of positive thinking, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K organized an awareness seminar on 4th October 2023. The resource person was Ms. Hema Rakesh, who is a journalist associated with BBC News.

Gender Sensitization – POSH Awareness Workshop- 25th October 2023

In order to create awareness amongst the students about the concept of gender sensitivity thinking and POSH (prevention of sexual harassment), the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K , organized an awareness workshop on 25th of October 2023. The resource person was Ms. Madhri Gurusamy, who is an advocate and a POSH trainer.

Workshop on Social Dynamics - 29th November 2023

In this day and age, it is very important for all of us to have good communication and inter personal skills. Effective communication skills allow you to confidently present yourself and your knowledge to the world. In order to maintain social networks in society, individuals must have good communication skills. This can be oral, ideological, or written. In order to create awareness amongst the first year students of LICET about the importance of social dynamics, the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi.K organized an awareness seminar on 29th November 2023. The resource person was Mr. Deveshwar.E, who is a mental health activist.

Food Fest 2023 and Charity Drive - 12 th December 2023

Christmas is a time for giving. In order to develop a sense of social responsibility and care for the lesser privileged sections of our society, the SHE forum organized Food fest ‘23 on 12th December 2023, along with provisions and clothes donation and it was decided to donate the proceeds to charity. This event was officially announced by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi K through the mail to the faculty and students. The proceeds of the Food fest were donated to the maintenance staff of LICET and Nesakkaram, Seeds, a social welfare organization working with street children, providing them opportunities to learn and grow.

Pongal Day Celebration – 12 th January 2024

Pongal Day Celebrations in LICET was organised by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi. K on January 12th 2024 in the portico, there were cultural programs and inter-departmental competitions. There was a competition for the best Pongal and the best
Rangoli. The CSE department was the winner in the Pongal Celebration Competitions. The event was filled with fun and frolic with a display of traditional silambattam, dances and songs portraying the significance of the festival. The judge was Mr. N.Prabhu from Le Meridian.

Women’s Day – 8th March 2024 | Theme- Inspire Inclusion

On the occasion of Women’s Day, 8th March 2024, a celebration was organized by the SHE forum in G01, LICET Auditorium. The theme of the celebration was “Inspire Inclusion”, the chief guest was Ms. Geetha Ramamoorthi, Managing Director, KBR Inc, India. The LICET choir enthralled everyone with their melodious songs. The girl students were highly motivated by the Chief guest’s inspiring talk. She also distributed the gifts of the Meraki-2024 competitions held to commensurate the Women’s Day celebrations.

Seminar on Empowering Young Women to lead Change - 13th March 2024

On 13th March 2024, a seminar on empowering young women to lead change was organized by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi.K. The chief guest was Ms. Vidhya S Nath, who is the Vice- President, Corporate Strategy, Flex. She highlighted the immense value of women’s empowerment in shaping a more equitable society and the importance to prioritize the empowerment of young women.

Workshop on Neurographic Art – 20th March 2024

On 20th March 2024, a neurographic art workshop was organized by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi.K. The resource person was Ms. Aishwarya Mary George, who is the volunteer of India lead for the campaign Hues of Chennai, supported by Yuwaah at UNICEF. She highlighted the importance of neurographic art, on how it takes you through your emotions and transforms difficult emotions and stress into something beautiful and healing.

Awareness Seminar on PoSH at Workplace – 10th April 2024

On 10th April 2024, a seminar with the aim of creating awareness about PoSH amongst the faculty was organized by the Dean of Women Students, Dr. Shree Meenakshi.K for the faculty. The resource person was Ms Kanmani Thivya Mahesh, PoSH Trainer. She said that the commitment of the faculty to upholding POSH standards not only ensures legal compliance but also reinforces trust and confidence within the academic community, facilitating a conducive learning environment for everyone.
