LICET Science Club
About the Club
The LICET Science Club is a vibrant student-led platform dedicated to nurturing scientific curiosity, innovation, and lifelong learning among engineering students. The Club primarily engages first-year students, helping them transition smoothly from school to college life while fostering a strong scientific temper and collaborative learning culture.
The Club serves as a forum where students explore scientific concepts beyond the classroom, interact with researchers and industry experts, participate in technical and academic activities, and develop communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Through lectures, mentorship, visits to scientific institutions, collaborative projects and technical competitions, the Science Club inspires students to become informed, innovative, and socially responsible engineers.

Celebration of National Science Day 2026
On 24th February 2026, LICET Science Club in association with the Department of Science and Humanities, organized an Invited Lecture to celebrate the National Science Day 2026, in the LICET auditorium (G01) . The lecture delivered by Dr. Siddharth Dhomkar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He presented an engaging talk titled “Schrödinger’s Cat & A Journey into Quantum Physics.”

Screening “October Sky”
On Jan 8, 2026, Science Club screened the movie “October Sky” in Room F11. The movie tells the inspiring real story of how a small group of high school students from rural West Virginia won the National Science Fair in 1960 by building a series of rockets from the scratch.

Guest Lecture and Investiture Ceremony
On 6th November 2025, LICET Science Club organised a guest lecture titled “Bioinformatics for Engineers” on 6th November 2025 in the LICET auditorium (G01). The talk was delivered by Dr. J. Ashok Kumar, Senior Scientist, Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai. Dr. Ashok Kumar gave an accessible introduction to Bioinformatics and followed it up with its applications in genomic research. He also explained the ways and means for Engineering students to learn Bioinformatics and develop it into a career option.
The guest lecture was followed by the Investiture Ceremony of the Science Club Office-Bearers and media team, during which the Students Officials and Media Team of the Club were announced and badges distributed.
The new logo of LICET Science Club was unveiled during the event. The logo was selected through a College wide design competition in which the selected design was done by Ms Juanita Grace Singh, 4th year CSE. For her contribution, Ms. Juanita was felicitated during the event.

On 1st November 2025, Club members attended the popular science lecture on Chemistry Nobel Prize 2025 organised by Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF) in Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram.

On 25th October 2025, Club members attended the popular science lecture on Physics Nobel Prize 2025 organised by Tamil Nadu Science Forum in Anna Centenary Library. After the lecture, the Club members explored the nearby Periyar Science and Technology Centre and watched a Sky Show in BM Birla Planetarium.

Highlights of Science Club Events : 2024 -2025
“ELEMENTIA 2025” – Annual Science Quiz
On 24th April 2025, LICET Science Club organized “ELEMENTIA 2025” from 2:30 PM to 5:45 PM at the GO1 Auditorium in Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology. This interdisciplinary science and innovation event was conducted exclusively for first-year students from all departments, providing them with a platform to test their scientific knowledge through engaging activities, discussions, and collaborative learning experiences.
With an impressive 134 registered participants, ELEMENTIA 2025 saw enthusiastic participation from first-year students across all departments. The structured rounds ensured continuous engagement, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and active collaboration.
After seven rounds, ELEMENTIA 2025 concluded with three winning teams, who showcased exceptional knowledge, problem-solving, and teamwork.
ELEMENTIA 2025 had rapid-fire Q&A, team discussions, and problem-solving exercises.

Demonstration of “Warehouse Drone” project
On 13th March 2025 (3.10-4.00 pm, Fab Lab) Joel Siby (final year ECE) and C. Vineet Jonathan (second year CSE) demonstrated their warehouse drone project which was selected for the final stage of the IIT Mumbai’s e-yantra competition. (The team went on to win the championship in the competition). They explained the project from its early stages to the current stage explaining the engineering concepts, challenges, technical details using power point presentation and live demonstrations. Both the senior students explained every aspect of undertaking such a project which in turn would be very useful for club members to carry out project on their own.

Celebration of National Science day 2025
On 27th Feb 2025, quiz on pre-1947 Indian Science was conducted. All the students enthusiastically participated in the quiz. Students also prepared attractive and informative posters on the subject which where displayed in College lobby on the Feb 28th, the National Science Day.

Past Events
“Demystifying the CheMYSTERY”
On 15th May, 2024, “Demystifying the CheMYSTERY” – a programme focussed on simplifying complex chemistry topics into easy to follow demonstrations. The program began with the introduction of the event and picking of lots for the order of presentation by the teams. 4 departments had participated in the event. Each team was given 7 minutes to present their topics in the most innovative way. The teams displayed a good presentation but only one team presented it in a very unique manner through a skit. There were nearly 30 participants in the event and a number of spectators.

“Connexions”
On 6th March, 2024, “Connexions” – an engaging educational event based on Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, was organised by the Club. The Connexions Game, engaged the participants in a unique challenge that required them to establish links between seemingly unrelated concepts.

Physics Quizes
on 22nd March, 2024, a specialized quiz titled “Classical and Modern Physics” aimed to assess participants’ knowledge of the significant milestones, breakthroughs, and key figures in the field of Classical and Modern Physics was held in F11 – Smart Room.
on 19th July, 2023, LICET Science Club held a quiz on “Semiconductor Engineering – History and Physics” to test the students awareness and knowledge of historical developments in Semiconductor Industry and the Physics discoveries which made possible the progress in this branch of Engineering.
