Faculty & Staff
Faculty members of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science are experts in a wide range of emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Computing. The department’s dynamic faculty members possess rich academic, research, and industry experience, enabling them to effectively deliver courses and mentor students in cutting-edge technologies. The faculty are actively involved in research, consultancy, and academic leadership, contributing significantly to the advancement of AI and Data Science education.
The Department has faculty members specialized in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science, Big Data Analytics, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, and Intelligent Systems. Faculty members regularly organize and participate in International and National Level Seminars, Conferences, Faculty Development Programmes, and Workshops to enrich their knowledge and stay updated with recent technological advancements. They have published research papers in reputed National and International journals and presented their research findings at conferences.
Faculty and students of the department have been instrumental in developing intelligent applications, machine learning models, data analytics solutions, predictive systems, automation tools, and AI-driven projects addressing real-world challenges. The department also encourages students to participate in hackathons, coding competitions, project expos, and innovation challenges. In addition, the department organizes National Level Technical Symposiums, workshops, guest lectures, and industry interactions to supplement the curriculum and transform students into industry-ready AI and Data Science professionals.
Faculty Development Program
The department has organised a faculty development program titled “AI for Future Workforce Program” in collaboration with Intel for the faculty members ensuring alignment with current industry standards. As a part of this initiative twelve faculty members were certified as facilitators for “AI for Sustainability, AI for Computer Vision and Introduction to Generative AI”.
Faculty Achievements
- Ms J Christina, HoD served as a resource person for the two days national level webinar on “Machine Learning and Deep Learning with their applications” organised by Loyola College, Vettavalam on 05/02/2026.
- Ms. J. Christina participated in and completed the six-day online Academic–Industry Collaborative Learning Series Smart Energy: Optimization and AI for Next-Generation Renewable Systems organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology (LICET) from 08/09/2025 to 13/09/2025.
Ms. J. Christina, completed the NPTEL course Python for Data Science with an ELITE Certification on 01/10/2025, aiding her professional development in the field.
Mr. Srivathsava, AP/AI&DS; Ms. J. Christina, AP/AI&DS; Siddheshwaran U. R, Nithish Kumar J, and Ananya S. V from the Department of AI&DS have successfully presented their research work Deep Learning-Based Diabetic Retinopathy Classification: A Comparative Study Using EfficientNet, ResNet-50d, and Grad-CAM Explainability at the ISVTEC 2025 conference conducted at LICET on 25/10/2025.
Mr. M. Srivathsava, AP/AI&DS, has completed a one-week FDP in Internet of Things organized by ICT Academy on 31/10/2025.
Lt. H. Bemesha Smitha, AP/AI&DS, attended a one-day workshop titled Google’s Gemini Academy 2025 on 06/12/2025.
Ms. J. Christina, HOD/AI&DS, Ms. H. Bemesha Smitha, AP/AI&DS, Ms. R. Femila Goldy, AP/AI&DS, and Mr. M. Srivathsava, AP/AI&DS, are certified as facilitators of AI for Sustainability, AI for Computer Vision, and Introduction to Generative AI under the AI for Future Workforce program conducted in collaboration with Intel Digital Readiness and HP.
Ms. Sofiya Graec K completed the NPTEL course Database Management System and earned certification during the January–March 2026 session.
Industry Certified Faculty
- Ms. J. Christina, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, successfully completed the Wipro Certified Faculty Program on Java Full Stack Development conducted by TalentNext, Wipro Limited from 13 February 2023 to 03 March 2023. The certification enhanced her expertise in full-stack application development and strengthened her ability to impart industry-relevant technical skills to students.
- Ms. H. Bemesha Smitha, Assistant Professor, successfully completed the Wipro Certified Faculty Program on .NET Full Stack conducted by TalentNext, Wipro Limited from 24 January 2024.The certification enhanced her expertise in full-stack application development and strengthened her ability to mentor students in industry-oriented software development practices.
- Facilitator of AI for sustainability, Ai Computer Vision Introduction to Genetrative AI certified by Intel under AI for workforce program:
Ms. J. Christina, Ms. R. Femila Goldy, Mr. Srivathsava M, and Ms. Bemesha Smitha.H of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science successfully completed the AI for Future Workforce Program conducted from 1st to 9th December 2025 and earned certification as Facilitators in AI for Sustainability, AI for Computer Vision, and Introduction to Generative AI. The programme enhanced their knowledge of emerging AI technologies and strengthened their ability to integrate industry-relevant concepts into teaching, research, and student mentoring activities.
Consultancy

The department actively promotes applied research and consultancy to address real-world challenges.
Students developed an AI-based application for Dr. Agarwal Institute of Ophthalmology to detect meibomian glands and assess the stage of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction under the guidance of Lt H Bemesha Smitha, AP/AI&DS. The project secured third place in the hackathon organised by Agarwal. - Internal consultancy
– Ms Christina J developed and implemented a Payslip Processing Software for LICET to streamline payroll payslip generation.
– Ms. Christina J. guided the development and successful launch of the Fee Portal for both first-year and higher-semester students, enhancing the efficiency of fee management and payment processing.
Research
- Ms J Christina published a SCI paper ‘GCN based Bio-Inspired Classifier for Autism Spectrum Disorder’ in Journal of Scientific and Industrial Research (JSIR), ISSN 0022-4456, vol. 83, no. 12, pp. 1306–1316.
- Ms J Christina was the faculty mentor for the Niral Thiruvizha project that won a funding amount of Rs 1,00,000 rupees. This project proposes telemedicine robotic kiosks powered by AI and biometric ID technology, integrated with the E-Sanjeevani app, to bridge the gap between rural communities and expert medical professionals.

- Faculty as Resource Person: Ms J Christina delivered a guest lecture on “AI in Optometry” to students of Agarwal Institute of Optometry on 1st July 2024.
Ms. J. Christina
Ms Christina J has received a Masters degree for Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in 2013 and currently pursing PhD in Anna University. She has been working at LICET since June 2013. Earlier she worked as Systems Engineer in Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. She has so far published two papers in well reputed journals, two book chapters and four papers in International Conferences. She is also a UGC NET qualified faculty member and a Wipro Certified Faculty for Java. Her research interest includes Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Cryptography and Network security and databases.

Assistant Professors
Lt. Bemesha Smitha H
Lt. H Bemesha Smitha completed her Bachelors in Information Technology and Masters in Software Engineering. Started her career as a technical trainer in programming and been promoted as project coordinator to handle Java and .NET projects. She is also a qualified Wipro Certified Faculty for .Net Framework. She has about 9+ years of experience in teaching, academia and industry. Her current areas of research and practice are Machine Learning and Data Analytics in the field of education. Apart from regular academics, she holds as charge of National Cadet Corps (NCC) Senior Army wing.
Ms Femila Goldy R
Ms. R. Femila Goldy completed her Undergraduate in Computer Science and Engineering with First class and Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering with First class distinction. She secured the 6th rank in Anna University, Tirunelveli. She received the Best Paper award for M.E project in International conference.She has 8 years of experience as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Her areas of interest includes image processing and databases.
Mr Anand B
Mr. Anand is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS). He holds a B.Tech degree in Information Technology and a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the prestigious College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University. Before joining academia, he worked as a Software Developer for one year, gaining valuable industry experience in software development and emerging technologies. His research interests include Network Security, Blockchain Technology, Generative AI, and Full Stack Development. He has published a research paper in an International Conference and continues to explore innovative solutions in the fields of artificial intelligence, secure computing, and advanced software technologies.
Ms Selvavathi M
Ms. Selvavathi.M is an Assistant professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. She completed her Undergraduate in Computer Science and Engineering with First class and Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering with First class distinction. She has about 2+ years of experience in teaching and academia. Her areas of interest include Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, and Software Testing . Apart from academics, she has a strong interest in sports.
Ms Chandiraleka G
Ms. G Chandiraleka is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. She completed her undergraduate degree in B.E. Computer Science and Engineering from Kingston Engineering College, Katpadi, and her postgraduate degree in M.Tech. in Information Technology from the College of Engineering, Guindy. Her areas of interest include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, LLMs, Generative AI, and Natural Language Processing. She is passionate about exploring emerging technologies and developing intelligent solutions to real-world challenges.
Mr Sairam P
Mr. Sairam P is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Misrimal Navajee Munoth Jain Engineering College, Chennai, and a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Big Data Analytics from the College of Engineering, Guindy. His academic and research interests include Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Data Visualization, and Big Data Query Languages. He is passionate about leveraging data-driven technologies to solve real-world problems and is committed to innovation and technical excellence among students through effective teaching and research.

Ms K. Sofiya Grace
Ms K. Sofiya Grace is a Lab Instructor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS). She holds a postgraduate M.Sc. degree in Information Technology from the University of Madras and completed her undergraduate B.Sc. in Computer Science at Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women. Sofiya is well-versed in Python programming and has intermediate proficiency in Java. She is dedicated to fostering practical programming skills among students and contributing to their academic growth.
